Two more off-the beaten-path music works …

Two more off-the beaten-path music works you might like to investigate:

The first is a performance I (Lance) did of the John Hall/Bob Leinbach song, “Serenity” on Feb. 24th, 2008, at the church I attend here in Nashville. Every Sunday I’m home I play acoustic guitar in the church band. We often have guest artists of all kinds play during the service. Just as often, we from within the band are featured artists (there are 1/2 dozen singers in the band itself).

For this rendering, I gathered about a dozen of the best voices in the congragation to serve as a choir. Unbeknownst to me at the time, one of the attendees caught this on video. I can’t vouch for the quality of the recording itself, but it’s nice that it was captured at all, let alone posted to YouTube.

“Serentiy” first appeared on the Analog Men album, released only in Japan in 1994. For the original version as well as the rest of that obscure CD, please visit www.OrleansOnline.com/AMenRide.html

Next up is a current project … one YOU can get involved in!

My good friend and sometimes musical collaborator, Shawn Gallaway, came to me with a tune he wished Orleans to help him cut. He had been commissioned by Universal Life Tools to write a song to go with their movie (and movement) called “The Wave of Love”. They wanted an upbeat, danceable kind of islands flavored thing. OK. No problem.

As we have done in the past, Charlie Morgan, Larry and I  went in to Charlie’s studio with Shawn and worked our magic. This time we recruited the talents of dear, old friend and Nashville diva, Jonell Mosser, to complete the background singers section. You can hear the results AND download The Wave of Love for FREE!.

While you’re there, watch the short video explaining how YOU can be a part of the video the Universal Life Tools people will produce to go along with the song … and their BIGGER mission.

Loved the church performance; my first time hearing “Serenity,” which is beautiful. I guess it’s not surprising to find such great voices in “Music City” congregations. :) Thanks for posting. Barbara

I thought I had heard every Orleans song ever written, but I guess i missed this one ’cause I would have remembered it-it’s beautiful! Thanks for sharing this great video.

Is Barbara M. the same Barbara that I met who was sitting next to me at the Orleans gig at Ithacafest? If yes, I enjoyed meeting another long time Orleans fan and sharing concert memories from the 70’s.

Hi Donna, I was at the gig at IthacaFest but not the Barbara you were talking to; perhaps that was Barbara Lerner. But I think I might’ve been sitting behind you — were you in a chair next to two other people in chairs and talking to a woman with long dark hair who was sitting on the grass near you? (Or maybe you were the one sitting in the grass and she was the one in the chair … or none of the above?)

  4. Donna P. Says:

Hi Barbara! Yes, that was me sitting in the chair in front of you. Thanks for the clarification! Hope the other Barbara will see this and leave a comment, too.
